KEENE, N.H. 10/14/07 - Carly Benning (Brewster, Mass.) had two
goals to lead the Keene State College field hockey to a 6-1
non-conference victory over RPI at Owl Athletic Complex on Sunday.
Keene State improves to 11-5. RPI falls to 5-8.
The Owls netted three goals in each half.
Karen Robinson (Phillipston, Mass.) gave Keene State a 1-0 lead
three minutes into the gameh when she tipped a centering pass by
Sam Blanchard (Amesbury, Mass.) high over RPI goalie Kate Williams
(Rome, N.Y.).
Kat Trimmer (Hanover, N.H.) tipped a shot by Williams to make
it 2-0. at the 14:50 mark.
The Red Hawks had a good scoring bid on a corner. A
drive by Lisa Pak (Methuen, Mass.) was stopped by Owl goalie
Jennifer McDougall (Avon, Conn.). Later in the half McDougall, who
finished with seven saves, stopped consecutive shots by Michelle
Clemente (Rensselaer, N.Y.) and Sara Stylinski (Southington,
Conn.).
With four seconds to play in the half, Benning scored on a rebound
to give KSC a 3-0 halftime lead.
In the second half, Benning, Alyssa Rowell (Queensbury, N.Y),
and Megan Moran (Derry, N.H.) scored for the Owls. Shaina
Feldman (Phoenixville, Pa.) netted the lone RPI goal.
Vikki Stoessel (Derry, N.H.) (4 saves), and Meghan Ledoux
(Standish, Me.) (0 saves) also saw action in goal for KSC.
Williams stopped 12 shots for the Red Hawks.
KSC hosts Salem State on Wednesday (7 p.m.).
