SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. 10/20/07 - The Keene State College men's
cross country team raced to a first place finish and Owl senior
Jennifer Adams, running in her hometown, won the women's race in
Saturday's Saratoga Springs (N.Y.) Invitational.
"The Keene State men are back," said KSC Coach Peter
Thomas. "This should put us back in contention in the
region."
The Owl men place three runners in the top-10 ten to finish with
52 points. St. Lawrence, ranked 13th in the country (Division
III) was second with 60 points.
The freshmen led the way for the Owls. Firt-year Craig
MacPherson (Derry, N.H.) was the first KSC runner to the finish
line. He placed fifth with a personal best time of 25:46 on
the 8K course. Sophomore Jared Samuel (Londonderry, N.H.) was right
behind in sixth place (25:50).
Three freshmen, Jeff Trethewey (Merrimack, N.H.) (8th/25:55),
Eric MacKnight (Newtown, Conn.), (14th, 26:15), and Charlie Baldour
(Newtowm, Conn.) rounded out the top scorers for KSC.
Adams posted a winning time of 17:22 on the 5K course. It
was the third individual championship for the All-America, who also
won the UMass-Dartmouth and KSC Invitational races this season.
Freshman Nicole Slane was KSC's second runner. She placed
19th with a time of 18:52.
KSC finished third with 145 points. Ithaca won the women's
championship with 55 points.
Keene State races next week at the Little East Championships.
