BRIDGEWATER, MASS. 10/27/07 - The Keene State College
women's volleyball team posted a 4-0 record to capture the 2007
Bridgewater State College Halloween Classic this weekend.
After winning matches over Worcester State (3-0) and Bridgewater
State (3-2) on Friday night, the Owls returned to the court on
Saturday and defeated Hunter (N.Y.) College (3-2) and Framingham
State (3-1).
KSC needed five games to beat Hunter (24-30, 30-22, 28-30, 30-17,
and 15-8).
Junior middle blocker Brittany O'Bryant (Merrimack, N.H.) and
sophomore middle blocker Carly Newton (Centerville, Mass.) finished
the match with 17 kills each. Freshman libero Jamie Levine
(Medfield, Mass.) had 23 digs, senior hitter Kelly Yankowski
(Turners Falls, Mass.) added 12 kills, 17 digs and one block, and
sophomore setter Jordan Porkyfki (Wasilia, AK.) chipped in with 53
assists.
The Owls won a four game match against Framingham State (31-29,
21-30, 30-22, and 30-18). Newton led the KSC offense with 16
kills while Yankowski (26 digs), Levine (20 digs), and Sarah
Peterson (Danville, N.H.) (19 digs) took care of the defense.
Newton and Pokryfki were named to the All-Tournament team.
Keene State(24-10), the top seed in the LEC tournament, will
receive a first-round bye. They will host a semifinal match on
Friday at Spaulding Gym.
