BRUNSWICK, ME. 10/5/07 - The Keene State College women's
volleyball team split a pair of matches at the Bowdoin College
Tournament on Friday night.
After extending their wining streak to eight matches with a 3-0
(30-22, 30-15, 30-18) win over Bates College, the Owls had their
streak snapped with a tough 3-2 (27-30, 30-24, 28-30, 30-28, 8-15)
loss to Gordon College.
The Owls featured a balanced attack against Bates with senior
hitter Kelly Yankowski (Turners Falls, Mass.) finishing with 11
kills, nine digs and one block, sophomore middle hitter Carly
Newton (Centerville, Mass.) adding 10 kills and three blocks, and
Brittany O'Bryant (Merrimack, N.H.) contributing nine kills and two
blocks.
Newton finished with a season high 20 kills on 31 attempts to go
with seven blocks against Gordon. Sophomore setter Jordan
Pokryfki (Wasila, AK.) set a school record with 61 assists in the
match. She broke the previous record of 60 set by Stephanie
Benard against Russell Sage College in 2001.
O'Bryant finished with 17 kills and two blocks, Yankowski had 15
kills, two blocks, and 17 digs, and junior libero Sarah Peterson
(Danville, N.H.) added 27 digs.
Keene State (15-7) continues play at the tournament on Saturday.
KSC (15-7) continues play at the Bowdoin Tournament on Saturday.
