WALTHAM, MASS. 11/10/07 - For the second consecutive season,
Keene State College's season came to end with a 3-0 loss to
Brandeis University in the semifinal round of the ECAC Division III
New England women's volleyball tournament in Waltham.
Keene State (25-12), the fifth seed, tied the program record for
victories set last season started strong in the match. In the other
semifnal, No. 3 Colby-Sawyer upset No. 2 Coast Guard 30-27,
20-23, 30-18. In the finals, top seeded Brandeis (27-10 defending
its ECAC title with a 3-0 win (30-21, 30-22, 30-26)over
Colby-Sawyer.
The Owls held a 27-22 lead in the first game, but the Judges
scored the next eight points of the game to prevail 30-27.
Brandeis took the next two games 30-17 and 30-21.
Sophomore middle blocker Carly Newton (Barnstable, Mass.) had 11
kills and one block and junior middle hitter Brittany O'Bryant
(Merrimack, N.H.) added five kills and one block for the
Owls. Defensive specialist, freshman Jamie Levine (Medfield,
Mass.) and junior Sarah Peterson (Danville, N.H.) finished with 14
digs each and sophomore setter Jordan Pokryfki (Wasilla, AK.) had
20 assists.
