'KEENE, N.H. 2/3/07 - Tony Barros (Dorchester, Mass.) had
25 points and Amigo Paniagua (Santiago, DR) and Anthony Matlock
(Seattle, WA) added 17 points each to lead the UMass-Boston men's
basketball team to a 90-86 Little East Conference victory over
Keene State College at Spaulding Gym on Saturday.
Nate Anderson (Westminster, Mass.) had 21 points; David Sontag
(Mont Vernon, N.H.) added 19 points, and Tyler Kathan (Ludlow, Vt.)
finished with 15 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Owls.
UMass-Boston improves to 8-11 (4-6 LEC). Keene State falls
to 17-4 (7-3 LEC).
A pair of free throws by Kathan put KSC up 74-73 with 2:32 to
play. The Beacons scored the next eight points to take a 81
74 lead on a pair of free throws by A.J. Titus (Roxbury, Mass.)
with 1:13 to play.
Paniagua and Mark Doran (South Boston, Mass.) connected on seven
free throws in down the stretch to hold off the Owls.
Barros had seven steals to become UMB all-time leader
(239).
KSC scored the first eight points of the game. Later in
the half, UMB went on a 22-1 run to go up 28-15 on a pair of free
throws by Mark Doran (South Boston, Mass.) at the 8:53 mark.
A spurt late in the first half got the Owls back into the
game. Anthony Licitra's (Glastonbury, Conn.) sneak-away
lay-up with 53 seconds to go cut KSC's deficit to three (38-35) at
the break.
UMB defeated KSC 81-67 in last year's LEC championship.
On Tuesday, KSC is at Eastern Conn. while UMB is at
UMass-Dartmouth.
