'FORT MYERS, FLA. 3/16/07 - The Keene State College
softball team completed its spring week trip with a 9-1 record
after winning two games in Fort Myers, Fla. on Friday.
The Owls collected 14 hits in a 9-2 opening win over Carroll
College of Wisconsin. Erin Fuoroli (Warwick, R.I.) tossed a
complete game three-hitter as KSC blanked Fredonia (N.Y.) State 7-0
in its second game of the day.
Keene State also posted a 9-1 spring week record in 2005.
"I was surprised how much we dominated teams," said KSC Coach
Charlie Beach. "Before we left, I was concerned about the
level of competition. Hopefully, we don't get a false sense
of security and keep this up when we return home."
Junior outfielder Colleen Ferguson (Sussex, N.J.) led the Owls'
offensive assault in the first game with a home run, two singles,
and three RBIs. MJ Hancock (Gardner, Mass.), Kaity Conklin
(Selkirk, N.Y.), and Nikki Lyons (Gilford, N.H.) also delivered
run-scoring hits.
Pitcher Kari Gardner (Grafton, Mass.) went the distance to
pick-up her second win on the trip. She scattered seven hits,
fanned two, and didn't allow a walk.
In the second game, Keene State took advantage of six errors to
score six runs in the first inning against Fredonia State.
The inning also included a two-run triple by Melissa Scata (Medway,
Mass.).
Conklin hit a solo home run in the seventh inning.
Fuoroli improved her record to 4-1 with the win.
Keene State opens up its north schedule with a Little East
doubleheader at Western Conn. on Saturday, Mach 31
