NORTH DARTMOUTH, MASS. 9/15/07 - The Keene State College women's
volleyball team began Little East Conference play by winning a pair
of matches at the UMass-Dartmouth Tripp Center on Saturday.
Keene State (7-5, 2-0 LEC), the preseason LEC pick, came back from
a two game deficit to beat Western Conn. (30-28, 22-30, 25-30,
30-23, 15-8) and swept the host Corsairs 30-13, 30-26, and 30-26).
Junior Brittany (Merrimack, N.H.) had a big day for the Owls with
17 kills and three blocks against WCSU and 16 kills and four blocks
vs. UMD.
Senior Kelly Yankowski (Turners Falls, Mass.) had 10 and eight
kills respectively in the two matches, and sophomore middle-blocker
Carly Newton (Centerville, Mass.) finished with seven kills and
four blocks against Western Conn. and eight kills and three blocks
against the Corsairs.
Defensively, Sarah Peterson (Danville, N.H.) chipped in with 19
digs and setter Jordan Pokryfki (Wasillia, Ak.) had 44 assists
against WCSU.
Keene State is at Colby Sawyer on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. match.
