BEVERLY, MASS. 9/7/07 - The Keene State College women's
volleyball team split its two matches at the Endicott College
Tournament on Friday.
The Owls defeated LEC foe Eastern Conn. in their first match 3-0
(30-21, 30-21, 30-10) giving Coach Bob Weiner his 300th career
victory. KSC lost to the host Gulls 3-1 in four close game
3-1 (24-30, 30-24, 24-30, 28-30).
Weiner, who is in his third season coaching the Owls, and 20th
overall year on the bench, previous coached at Iona (N.Y.) College,
Assumption College, Montana State Northern, Macalester
(Minn.) College, and Franklin Pierce.
Weiner received contributions from several of he players in the win
over ECSU. Senior hitter Kelly Yankowski (Turners Falls,
Mass.) led the way with 11 kills, 12 digs, and three service
aces. Sophomore middle blocker Carly Newton finished
with 10 kills, junior middle hitter Brittany O'Bryant (Merrimack,
N.H.) had seven kills and four blocks, freshman hitter Chelsea
Fuchs (Narragansett, R.I.) added nine kills, and sophomore setter
Jordan Pokryfki (Wasila, AK.) had 31 assists.
Against Endicott, O'Bryant and Yankowski led the offense with 13
and 10 kills respectively. Pokryfki added 39 assists and 16
digs, Newton had four blocks, and Sarah Peterson (Danville, N.H.)
finished with 13 digs.
KSC (4-3) continues tournament play on Saturday with a match
against Emmanuel College (12 p.m.).
