Rowell Leads Over Over WCSU 5-1

DANBURY, CT (Oct. 4) - After managing to score only one goal against the Western Connecticut State University defense in the first half, Keene State outscored the host Colonials 4-1 in the second half to claim a 5-1 victory on Saturday afternoon at the Westside Athletic Complex.

Elizabeth Coffin (Sugar Hill, NH) scored the lone goal of the first half (her sixth of the season) when she took a pass from Carly Benning (Brewster, MA) midway through the half to give Keene State a 1-0 lead.

In the second half, Keene State extended the lead to 2-0 when Alyssa Rowell (Queensbury, NY) scored her fourth goal of the season off a pass from Erin Dallas (Marlow, NH).  The Colonials answered quickly with an unassisted goal by Sara LeFevre (Goshen, CT), her team-leading fifth goal of the season, to make the score 2-1.  With 15 minutes to play, Keene State took control scoring two goals in just over a minute, and cruised to a 5-1 final margin of victory.  Rowell, Dallas, and Kelly McCall (Delmar, NY) closed out the scoring for the Owls.

Vickki Stoessel (Derry, NH) made five saves in goal for Keene State to earn her eighth win of the season.  Laura Damico (New Milford, CT) was kept busy all afternoon by the Keene State offense, finishing with 18 saves, but takes the loss in goal for the Colonials.

With the win, Keene State now stands at 8-3 on the season (4-0 in the Little East Conference).  WestConn falls to 2-8 (1-3 in the LEC).

Keene State is at Plymouth on Tuesday (4 p.m.) for game against the rival Panthers.
