DANBURY, CT (Oct. 4) - After managing to score only one goal
against the Western Connecticut State University defense in the
first half, Keene State outscored the host Colonials 4-1 in the
second half to claim a 5-1 victory on Saturday afternoon at the
Westside Athletic Complex.
Elizabeth Coffin (Sugar Hill, NH) scored the lone goal of the first
half (her sixth of the season) when she took a pass from
Carly Benning (Brewster, MA) midway through the
half to give Keene State a 1-0 lead.
In the second half, Keene State extended the lead to 2-0 when
Alyssa Rowell (Queensbury, NY) scored her fourth
goal of the season off a pass from Erin Dallas (Marlow,
NH). The Colonials answered quickly with an
unassisted goal by Sara LeFevre (Goshen, CT), her team-leading
fifth goal of the season, to make the score 2-1. With 15
minutes to play, Keene State took control scoring two goals in just
over a minute, and cruised to a 5-1 final margin of victory.
Rowell, Dallas, and Kelly McCall (Delmar,
NY) closed out the scoring for the Owls.
Vickki Stoessel (Derry, NH) made five saves in
goal for Keene State to earn her eighth win of the season.
Laura Damico (New Milford, CT) was kept busy all afternoon by
the Keene State offense, finishing with 18 saves, but takes the
loss in goal for the Colonials.
With the win, Keene State now stands at 8-3 on the season (4-0 in
the Little East Conference). WestConn falls to 2-8 (1-3 in
the LEC).
Keene State is at Plymouth on Tuesday (4 p.m.) for game against the
rival Panthers.
