BRIDGEWATER, MASS. 11/1/08 - The Keene State women's volleyball
team captured the Bridgewater State Halloween Classic and
established a new program record for wins in a season (27) on
Saturday.
The Owls, ranked seventh in New England, swept Suffolk
University 3-0 (25-5, 25-13, and 25-9) and edged rival Plymouth
State 3-2 (25-14, 25-10, 17-25, 14-25, and 15-13) to increase its
winning streak to 10 matches improving its record to 27-8.
The Owls posted 25 wins the past two seasons. KSC won all four of
its matches in the Classic.
Freshman Laurie Whalen (Niantic, Conn.) had 19 assists and
junior Abby Rosen (Hebron, Conn.) finished with six service aces in
the win against Suffolk.
Freshman Bridget O'Bryant (Merrimack, N. H.) had 14 kills and 18
digs and freshman Kristen Girard, who was named to the
All-Tournament team, added 13 kills against PSU. Senior
Brittany O'Bryant (Merrimack, N.H.) chipped in with 12 kills;
senior Sarah Peterson (Danville, N.H.) collected 26 digs, and
junior Jordan Pokryfki (Wasilla, Alaska) finished with 45 assists
in the match.
The top seed in the upcoming LEC tournament, the Owls will host
a semifinal game on Friday (6 p.m.).
