KEENE, N.H. 2/23/2008 - Both Keene State men's and women's team finished eighth in their respective New England Division III Track Championships on Saturday.
At Tufts University, the Keene State men tallied 34 points. The host Jumbos won the title with 118 points. At the women's meet at Smith College, Keene State had 38.50 points. Tufts also won the women's championship with 136 points.
The lone win for the KSC men came in the 4x800 relay with the team of freshman Craig MacPherson (Derry, N.H.) juniors Pat Craven (North Kingstown, R.I.) and Peter Najem (Derry, N.H.), and senior Kevin Kelleher (Rocky Hill, Conn.) finishing with a time of 7:52.20.
MacPherson took third (2:29.07) and freshman Jeff Trethewey (Merrimack, N.H.) was sixth (2:32.28) respectively in the 1,000 event. In other races, junior Sean Gavaghan (Monroe, Conn.) was sixth in the 5,000 (15:13.82), Najem placed seventh in the 800 (1:57.28), and Kelleher was eighth in the mile (4:18.55).
On Friday, sophomore Frank Radlof (Milford, N.H. posted a fourth place finish in the indoor pentathlon with a school record 3,375 points. On Saturday, freshman Bryan Kolacz (Brentwood, N.H.) alo put his name in the record book with his sixth place performance in the shot put competition (46'-06.00").
Senior Crystal Blamy (Walpole, N.H.) led the Owl women with a first place finish in the high jump (5'-04.25"). Senior Krystin Gavin (Brimfield, Mass.) placed fourth in the event with a mark of 5'-02.25".
Senior Jennifer Adams (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) placed second in the mile, breaking the previous New England Division III championship mark with a time of 4:57.42. She also finished fourth in the 1,000 (3:00.41).
Other Owls placing included senior Laura Kintz (Jafrey, N.H.), sixth in the 55-dash (7.61), sophomore Katelyn Carr (Scituate, Mass.), seventh in the 600 (1:40.64), and sophomore Kaley Griffin (Manchester, N.H.), seventh in the 55-hurdles (9.20).
In field events, freshman Bryanna Brown (Nashua, N.H.) was fifth in the shot-put (39'-00.25").
