PROVIDENCE, R.I. 9/12/08 - The Keene State College posted
a pair of wins at the Johnson & Wales University tournament on
Friday.
In its opening match, the Owls defeated Springfield College 3-1
(26-28, 25-19, 25-16, and 25-22). Freshman middle blocker
Bridget O'Bryant (Merrimack, N.H.) led a balanced
off with 15 kills. Freshman hitter Kristen Girard
(Red Hook, N.Y.) had 12 kills and 17 digs, and junior setter
Jordan Pokryfki (Wasilla, Alaska) finished with 48
assists.
The Owls needed five games to subdue host Johnson & Wales
3-2 (28-26, 25-17, 23-25, 24-26, and 15-5). Bridget
O'Bryant had a season high 18 kills while sister
Brittany O'Bryant (Merrimack, N.H.) added 11 kills
and 1 block. Freshman middle blocker Elyse
Davis (Londonderry, N.H.) had nine kills and one block,
Pokryfki contributed 46 assists, and senior libero Sarah
Peterson (Danville, N.H.) finished with 22 assists.
On Saturday, Keene State (8-2) will face Bridgewater State at 12
p.m. and Conn. College
at 2 p.m.
