MacPherson posts NCAA provisional qualifying time at Dartmouth Relays

             HANOVER, N.H. 1/11/09 - Keene State's Craig MacPherson didn't waste anytime qualifying for a return trip to the Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships.  The sophomore from Derry, N.H. placed second in the mile with a NCAA provisional qualifying time of 4:11. 66 at the 40th Annual Dartmouth Relays held Sunday at the Leverone Field House in Hanover.

            "That should get him in," said KSC Coach Peter Thomas.  "Craig looked in good form coming back from the break.  You could tell he did some work during the holidays."

            MacPherson, who earned All-American honors with his third place finish in the mile at last year's national meet, also teamed with seniors Peter Najem (Derry, N.H.) and Pat Craven (North Kingstown, R.I.), and sophomore Jeff Trethewey (Merrimack, N.H.) to place second in the distance medley relay (10:32.04.

            Trethewey finished fourth in the mile (4:18.98).  Sophomore Tim Pipp (New Ipswich, N.H.) won his first college race, winning the 5,000-meter event with a time of 15:29.86.

            In field events, sophomore Bryan Kolacz (Brentwood, N.H.) finished fifth in the weight throw (52'-04.50") and seventh in the in the shot-put (43'-10.50").

            Keene State finished fourth in the 28-team field with 46 points.  Host Dartmouth won the team championship with 114 points.

            Sophomore Amy Knoblock (Plymouth, Mass.) had the best performance by the Keene State women's team, a 15th place finish in the mile (5:30.71).  Sophomore Bryanna Brown (Nashua, N.H.)  placed 12th in the shot-put competition with a throw of 35'-05.25".

            The Owl women didn't score at the meet won by Boston College with 80 points.

            Keene State is at the Tufts Invitational next Saturday.
