Owls win four events at Tufts Invitational

             MEDFORD, MASS.1/17/09- The Keene State indoor track team won four events and set one school record at the Tufts Invitational held in Medford, Mass. on Saturday.

            In the men's competition, sophomores Craig MacPherson (Derry, N.H.) and  Jeff Trethewey (Merrimack, N.H.) and Bryan Kolacz (Brentwood, N.H. posted first place finishes.  MacPherson won the 1,000 (2:28.75), Trethewey (Merrimack, N.H.) won the 3,000 (8:44.98) and Kolacz captured the weight throw (53'-03.75").

            Jeremy Kerins, Nick Fortin, Max Gausch, and Sarbjit Singh also teamed up to win the 4x400 relay (3:30.20).

            Freshman Chris Cheever (Grantham, N.H.) set an Owl record with a time of 6.77 in the trials of the 55-dash.  He placed sixth in the finals (6.82).

            In the other races,senior Peter Najem (Derry, N.H.) was third in the 600 (1:23.23),  Matt Norton was third in the 400 (52.38), and sophomore Eric MacKnight (Newtown, Conn.) was third in the mile (4:32.01).

            The KSC men finished second in the eight-team field with 126 points. UMass-Lowell won the meet with 156 points.

            Freshman Sarah Titus (Derry, N.H.) won the only event for the Owl women wit her first place finish in the 800 (2:26.60).

            Sophomore Amy Knoblock (Plymouth, Mass.) was third in the mile (5:29.36) and the 4x400 team of juniors Christina Bourbeau (Manchester, N.H.) and Kimber Stannard (Higganum, Conn.), freshman Haley Lydstone and Knoblock  placed second (4:17.27).

            Keene State tallied 45 points to place fifth in the team scoring. UMass-Lowell captured the team championship with 211 points.

            Coach Peter Thomas splits his squad next Saturday, with athletes competing at both Wesleyan University and Boston University.
