Babson Park, Mass. 10/15/09 - The Keene State
College women's volleyball team dropped a back and forth
non-conference match to the Babson College Beavers at Staake
Gymnasium Thursday night. The loss drops the Owls to 10-15 on the
season, while the win improves the Beavers to 11-9.
In game one the Beavers held a 22-20 lead with service until
sophomore outside hitter Tiffani Brooks (Salem,
Conn.) came up with a big kills to make it 22-21. After
Babson scored two unanswered points and a Keene State timeout,
Brooks again answered with another kill. Senior libero Abby
Rosen (Hebron, Conn.) had two straight service aces to
even the game at 24-24. But the Beavers would fight back and take
game one 26-24.
Keene State controlled the second game, leading by as many as
ten on three separate occasions en route to a 25-16 win. Sophomore
outside hitter Bridget O'Bryant
(Merrimack, N.H.) led the way with five kills and
Rosen had two service aces to pace the Owls.
Babson came back in the third, leading by as many as seven on
their way to a 25-20 win. Davis and O'Bryant had four kills to lead
the Owls attack, while senior setter Jordan Pokryfki
(Wasilla, Alaska) had ten assists, two service aces and
three kills.
The Beavers fought off a comeback effort by Keene State in the
fourth game and seemed to have it all wrapped up with a 24-19 lead.
The Owls answered by rattling off four straight points with
O'Bryant smacking two more kills. But Babson would grab their final
point and a 3-1 non-conference victory.
O'Bryant and Davis each had 15 kills, while Brooks added 13.
Rosen led the way with 21 digs and sophomore setter Laurie
Whalen (Niantic, Conn.) pitched in with 20 of her own.
Pokryfki quarterbacked the Keene State attack with 43 assists.
The Owls return to action Saturday, as they will travel to the
LEC/NEWMAC Challenge at Mt. Holyoke.
