WORCESTER, MASS. 10/17/09 - The Keene State College field hockey
team scored three first half goals in a 3-0 Little East Conference
shutout victory over Worcester State College at Coughlin Stadium on
Saturday. It was KSC's 10th shutout of the season, two shy of the
school record (12) set in 2006.
Undefeated in its last five games (4-0-1), Keene State improves to
11-4 overall and 6-2 in LEC play. Worcester State falls to
3-12 (0-8 LEC).
Senior Carly Benning (Brewster, Mass.) gave KSC a
1-0 lead with her LEC-leading 16th goal of the season at the 6:45
mark. The goal gives Benning 100 career points. She
becomes the seventh Owl player to reach the milestone. She is tied
for fifth on the all-time goal list with 43.
Sophomore Alyce Ferenc (Rumney, N.H.) followed
with her first career goal, off a rebound in the middle of the
circle. Sophomore Elizabeth Coffin (Sugar
Hill, N.H.) conclude the scoring with her sixth goal of the season
at the 23:05 mark of the first half.
Senior Vikki Stoessel (Derry, N.H.) and
Meghan Ledoux (Standish, Me.) each played a half
in goal for KSC. Stoessel made two saves while Ledoux turned
aside six shots. Katherine Masterjohn finished the game
with eight saves for WSC.
The Lancers outshot the Owls 17-16, but KSC had a 10-7 advantage in
penalty corners.
Keene State hosts Salem State on Wednesday.
