Holyoke, Mass. 10/17/09 - The Keene State
College women's volleyball team defeated Mount Holyoke and Smith
College 3-0 to capture the LEC versus NEWMAC challenge Saturday
afternoon at Mount Holyoke. After defeating Mount Holyoke 25-10,
25-12 and 25-11, the Owls beat Smith 25-19, 25-10 and 25-11.
"I thought the match against Smith was the best we played all
year," said Coach Bob Weiner.
With the pair of wins the Owls move to 12-15 overall on the 2009
season.
In the win over Mount Holyoke, senior libero Abby Rosen
(Hebron, Conn.) led the way with 13 digs. The sophomore
tandem of Bridget O'Bryant (Merrimack, N.H.) and
Ellyse Davis (Londonderry, N.H.) paced the Owls
with 10 and eight kills respectively. Freshman setter Emily
Halbert (Chester, N.J.) had a career-high 14 assists in
the win.
Later in the day against Smith, Keene State was led by Davis
with 13 kills and seven blocks. Sophomore outside-hitter
Tiffani Brooks (Salem, Conn.) had ten kills and
senior setter Jordan Pokryfki (Wasilla, Alaska)
put up 33 assists. Rosen tied a career-high with 28 digs in the
win.
The Owls return to action Tuesday, October 20th for senior night
against Worcester State at 7 p.m. in Spaulding Gymnasium.
