FITCHBURG, MASS. 10/24/09 - The Keene State College field hockey
team overcame an early wake-up call, pelting rain, and a pesky
Falcon team to post a 3-2 Little East Conference field hockey
victory over Fitchburg State College at Elliot Field on Saturday.
It was the third straight victory for the Owls (13-4, 8-2 LEC)
while the Falcons (11-4, 8-2 LEC) saw their six game wining streak
come to an end.
Keene State scored the first three goals of the game, which
began at 10 a.m.
Coming of the bench, freshman Alexandra
Billert (Center Conway, N.H.) scored on a corner play to
give the Owls a 1-0 lead a the 18:55 mark with her second goal of
the season. Sophomore Aislynn Sherry
(Rehoboth, Mass.) found the back of the net six minutes later to
send the Owls to the locker room with a 2-0 halftime lead. It
was Sherry's third goal this season.
Senior Carly Benning (Brewster, Mass.) netted
her team-leading 18th goal of the season just over five minutes
into the second half, staking KSC to 3-0 lead.
Fitchburg senior Paula Bartalamia (Tewksbury, Mass.) scored a
couple of late second half goals to account for the final
score.
Senior Vikki Stoessel (Derry, N.H.) finished
the game with eight saves for the Owls. Junior Van Ahnen
(Seekonk, Mass.) turned aside five shots for the Falcons.
Keene State hosts New England College on Tuesday (6 p.m.).
