GORHAM, Maine 10/24/09 - The Keene State
College women's volleyball defeated LEC rivals Southern Maine (3-0)
and Rhode Island College (3-1) on Saturday afternoon at Hill
Gymnasium. With the pair of wins, the Owls move to 15-15 overall on
the year and concludes their regular season conference schedule at
4-3. The win also clinches a fourth place finish in league play and
will now host an LEC quarterfinal match on November 3rd.
"We played well and found a good rhythm," said Coach Weiner. "We
have been trying to play hard and relaxed at the same time and
today we did that."
The Owls swept the Huskies 25-9, 25-12 and 25-17 in the first
match of the day. Sophomore middle-blocker Ellyse Davis
(Londonderry, N.H.) had 18 kills in 27 attempts to hit a
blistering .593 on the match. Junior Jamie Levine
(Medfield, Mass.) was second on the match with nine kills,
followed by sophomore outside-hitter Tiffani Brooks (Salem,
Conn.) with eight. Sophomore setter Laurie Whalen
(Niantic, Conn.) had a season-high 23 assists, while
senior libero Abby Rosen (Hebron, Conn.) had a
team-high 12 digs in the win.
The second match saw the Owls sink the Anchormen 28-26, 23-25,
25-21 and 25-17. Davis led the way with 17 kills on the match.
Sophomore outside-hitter Bridget O'Bryant (Merrimack,
N.H.)had 10 kills and 11 digs, while Rosen had a
career-high 29 digs. Senior setter Jordan Pokryfki
(Wasilla, Alaska) put up 36 assists in the win.
Davis has been on a hot streak in her last seven matches. The
sophomore has put down 94 kills and has hit at a .497 clip since a
3-0 win over Emmanuel College on October 14th.
The Owls return to action Wednesday with a non-conference match
at Colby Sawyer.
