Box Score GORHAM, Maine - Sophomore forward Derek D'Amours
(Agawam, Mass.) knocked down five three-pointers and
scored a game-high 29 points to lead the Keene State College Owls
past the University of Southern Maine Huskies 92-82 in a Little
East Conference men's basketball game Saturday afternoon at Hill
Gymnasium in Gorham, Maine.
With the win, Keene State improves to 5-5 overall and 1-1 in the
conference. Southern Maine falls to 2-7 with the loss and 0-2 in
the Little East.
D'Amours was 5-for-9 from three-point range and 9-for-17 for the
game. He added a team-high seven rebounds for the Owls.
Sophomore forward Cody Snow (Leyden, Mass./Pioneer Regional)
matched D'Amours on the glass and added 20 points on an outstanding
9-for-13 effort from the field.
USM junior forward Cortez Isaac (Washington, D.C./Northwest)
paced the Huskies with 28 points, 10 rebounds and five
assists. Junior guards Troy Jellison (Bangor, Maine) and Otis
Smith (Altamonte Springs, Fla./Ocoee) each netted 15 for USM.
Jellison had nine rebounds and four assists.
In a closely contested game, the Owls used a 15-3 run late in
the game to pull away from USM. Trailing 71-70 with 5:46 to
play following a lay-up from USM senior forward Will Clemmer
(Windham, Maine), the Owls ran off six straight points on a
three-pointer from D'Amours and a three-point play from Snow to
lead 76-71 with 4:19 to play. Keene then outscored USM 9-3
over the next two minutes to lead 84-74 with 2:32.
USM rallied to pull within two of the Owls, 84-82, with an 8-0
run capped by a running jumper from Isaac with 1:13 to play.
KSC sophomore forward Steve Boudreau (North Andover,
Mass.) snapped the Owl drought with a lay-up with 57
seconds to play and the Owls held on to win the game at the free
throw line sinking 6-of-6 down the stretch.
Keene State faces the Penn College of Technology at the PNC Bank
Holiday Invitational hosted by the University of Scranton in
Scranton, Pa.
