NORTHAMPTON, Mass. 12/5/09 - The Keene State College men's and women's indoor track team kicked off their 2009-10 season at the Smith College Invitational on Saturday afternoon. Junior Bryan Kolacz (Brentwood, N.H.) launched an NCAA provisional throw of 18.06 meters (59'-3'') on his first throw in the 35 pound weight and won the shot put with a throw of 13.51 meters (44'-4'').
"It was a good way to start the year off," said KSC Coach Peter Thomas. "The distance runners had the meet off because of the long cross country season, but the throwers, sprinters, jumpers and mid-distance runners used this to build some good experience in a meet setting."
On the track the Owls placed 2nd in the 4X200 relay with the team of Doug Dombrowik, Shawn Shand (Keene, N.H.), Josh Burba and Elias Grijalva (Manchester, N.H.) with a time of 1:36.70. Grijalva also placed fourth in the long jump with a leap of 6.01 meters (19'-8 ¾'').
On the women's side, Amy Knoblock (Plymouth, Mass.) earned a New England Division III qualifying time in the 800 meters with a race in 2:27.86, while Maggie Fitter (Branford, Conn.) and Sarah Titus (Derry, N.H.) qualified for the 600 meter race with times of 1:44 and 1:44.51 respectively.
In the field events, Keeley Moffitt (Guilford, Conn.) placed fourth in the 20 pound weight throw with a personal best throw of 12.29 meters (40'-4").
The Owls hit the track again next Saturday, December 12th, as they will travel to the Harvard Invitational starting at 9:30 a.m.
