Knoblock wins 1,000-meter race at LEC Alliance Championships

         GORHAM, ME.  2/14/09 - Keene State sophomore Bryan Kolacz (Brentwood, N.H.) posted an NCAA Division III championship mark in the weight throw event at the Little East/New England Alliance Indoor Track and Field Championship at the Costello Sports Campus on Saturday.

            Kolacz's first place throw of 18.50 meters shattered his previous KSC record (14.17-meters) set last season. He also placed second in the shot-put with a throw of 13.63-meters).

            On the track, the Owls had a trio of third place finishes.  Senior Sean Gavaghan (Monroe, Conn.) was third in the mile (4:23.54), senior Jason Garrity (Topsfield, Mass.) was third in the 1,000 (2:36.75), and sophomore Brandon Schillemat (Nelson, N.H.) was third in the 3,000 (8:56.76).   Sophomores Corey Loonan (Sandwich, Mass.) and Eric MacKnight (Newtown, Conn.) joined Garrity and Gavaghan to win the 4x800 relay (8:08.11).

            Keene State, the defending LEC champs, finished with 66 points to place fourth in the Alliance team scoring and placed second with 89 points in the LEC scoring.  Southern Maine won the team tile with 180 points.

            Sophomore Amy Knoblock (Plymouth, Mass.) had a fine day for the KSC women.  She won the 1,000 with a time of 3:08.40 and placed second in the mile (5:20.88).

            Several freshmen also turned in strong efforts.  Haley Lydstone (Bedford, N.H.) was second in the 600 (1:44.81), Sarah Titus (Derry, N.H.) was second in the 800 (2:24.78), and Natalie Ferro (Dennis, Mass.) was third in the 3,000 (11:12.95).  Juniors Christina Bourbeau (Manchester, N.H.) and Kimber Stannard (Higganum, Conn.) teamed up with Knoblock and Lydstone to win the 4x400 relay (4:17.20).

           Junior Kaley Griffin (Manchester, N.H.) was second in the 55-meter hurdles (9.14) and sophomore Bryanna Brown (Nashua, N.H.) placed third in the shot-put (11.25m).

          Keene State had 81 points to finish fifth in the Alliance scoring and third in the LEC standings with 102 points.  Southern Maine captured its ninth straight championship with 125 points.
