NORTH DARTMOUTH, MASS. 4/18/09 - Keene State received
complete game pitching victories from freshmen Courtney
Savoie (Stratham, N.H.) and Samantha
Pratt (West Hartford, Conn.) to sweep a Little East
Conference softball doubleheader 14-1 and 4-1 against
UMass-Dartmouth on Saturday.
Winners of five straight, Keene State improves to 13-10-1 (3-2-1
LEC). UMass-Dartmouth drops to 7-17 (2-8 LEC).
The Owls used the big inning to pull away from the Corsairs in
the first game that ended after five innings. KSC plated four
runs in the first, plating two on fielder's choice plays, another
on a hit-by-pitch, and one on an error.
KSC added five more runs in the third with sophomore
Katie Bradford (Lebanon, N.H.), senior
Jenna Patnode (Surry, N.H.), and sophomore Ashley
Annis (Gilford, N.H.) knocking in runs.
The Owls put five more runs on the board in the fifth.
Bradford and freshman Laura Chandler (Wakefield,
Mass.) had run-producing hits in the inning.
Bradford had three and three RBIs and Patnode had three hits and
two RBIs and also scored three runs.
Savoie gave up one run on four hits to improve her record to
5-3. She fanned eight and walked one.
In the second game, the Owls manufactured a run to go up 1-0 in
the first inning. Patnode, walked, stole second, and came
home on a throwing error.
KSC took a 3-1 lead in the fifth on a RBI single by junior
Stephanie Lavado (Wallingford, Conn.) and
sacrifice fly by Bradford. They go their last run in the top of the
seventh on a single up by middle by Lavado.
Senior Katie Allenson (Clifton Park, N.Y.) and
Lavado each had two hits for the Owls, who jump into fourth place
in the LEC standings.
Pratt improved her record to 3-1 with the victory. She
allowed one run on four hits while fanning four and walking one.
Keene State hosts UMass-Boston on Tuesday.
