MANCHESTER, N.H. 9/2 - The Keene State College
women's volleyball team fell to Division II Southern New Hampshire
University 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-15) on Wednesday night at the SNHU
Fieldhouse in the 2009 season opener.
In the first game, the Owls fell behind as the Penman jumped out
to a 6-0 lead. SNHU continued to extend the lead to as many as nine
in the game at 24-15. The Owls fought back rattling off five
straight points before finally dropping the set 25-19.
Senior setter Jordan Pokryfki (Wasilla, Alaska)
led the way with 11 assists in the game, while Ellyse Davis
(Londonderry, N.H.) and Tiffani Brooks (Salem,
Conn.) each had three kills.
SNHU jumped out again in the second game, by jumping out to a
12-4 lead. The Penmen who led by as many as 10, won the set 25-16
behind Danielle Coffey's seven kills.
Pokryfki put up eight assists in the second game, while
Braelan O'Toole (Berry, N.H.) and Brooks totaled
three kills each.
In the final game, SNHU took a 5-0 lead on a service ace by
Caitlin Wilson. The Owls rallied to make it 6-5 on
an ace by Sammy Datti (Durham, N.H.). But the
Penmen would open up the lead to as many as 10 an cap the game at
25-15.
Pokryfki finished the night with 26 assists, while Davis led the
way with seven kills. Senior Abby Rosen (Hebron,
Conn.) led the team with 16 digs in the loss.
Coffey had a game-high 11 kills for SNHU, while Lauren
Lorenz had a team-high 17 assists.
The Owls return to the court this weekend as they will
participate in the Gordon Tournament on Saturday, September 5th
starting with a game against MIT at 11 a.m.
