Kolacz equals NCAA mark; Chamberlain wins 1,000 and 3K at Tufts Meet

MEDFORD, MASS. 1/16/10 - Keene State junior Bryan Kolacz (Brentwood, N.H.)  Equaled his NCAA Division III Championship qualifying mark in the #35 weight throw event and junior Allison Chamberlain (Scarborough, Maine) won the 1,000-meter and 3K races at the Tufts Winter Invitational in Medford, Mass. on Saturday.

Kolacz won the weight throw with the same national qualifying mark (60'-02") he posted last week at the Dartmouth Relay. He also placed second in the in the shot-put (45'-10").

Chamberlain had a superb day on the track, wining the 1,000 (3:02.40) and the coming back to capture the 3K (10:23.17). Sophomore Haley Lydstone (Bedford, N.H.) placed third in the 3K (10:55.13)

In other men's races, junior Eric MacKnight (Newtown, Conn.) won the 800 (2:03.69).  Freshman David Berube (Manchester, N.H.) was third in the race with a time of 2:08.68. Sophomore Kevin Hoyt (Newtown, Conn.) placed third in the 5K (16:02.20).

In field events, freshman Douglas Dombrowik took third in the triple jump (43'-10")

In team scoring, KSC finished third with 88 points. The host Jumbos won the meet with 239 points.

The Owl women also had a fine day on the track.  Junior Amy Knoblock (Plymouth, Mass.) won the mile (5:26.08). Freshman Maggie Fitter (Branford, Conn.) was right behind her in second place (5:29.32).  Senior Ashley Sawyer (Billerica, Mass.) finished second in the 400 (1:05.54), Lydstone, Fitter and Knoblock, and sophomore Sarah Titus (Derry, N.H.) placed second (2:29.39), third (2:31.67), fourth (2:31.87), and fifth (2:32.33) respectively in the 800.

In women's field events, freshman Janel Haggerty (Guilford, Conn.) placed fourth in the high jump (4'-11") and sophomore Keeley Moffit (Guilford, Conn.) was fourth in the weight throw (37'-05").

The Owls finished fourth in team scoring with 105 points.  Tufts also won the women's championship with 199 points.

The Owls compete next Saturday at the MIT Invitational.
