KEENE, N.H. 1/30/10 - Keene State men's and women's swim teams
concluded their dual meet schedule with impressive win over Gordon
College at Spaulding Gym on Saturday.
The Keene State men improved their record to 6-1 with a 117-64
win over the Fighting Scots. The Owl women defeated Gordon
106-58 to go to 6-3.
Sophomore Jill Whitaker (Gilford, N.H.)
broke the KSC record for the 100 IM (59.80) and the women's 800
freestyle relay of sophomore Maureen O'Leary (Nashua,
N.H.), seniors Alea Paddock (Newbury,
N.H.) and Jackie Foster (Goffstown, N.H.)
and Whitaker destroyed the previous Owl mark by over four seconds
(7:55.32). They are just three seconds off a DIII NCAA provisional
time for the relay.
Both Keene State teams won all 16 of the events at the meet.
Freshman Kaila Umbarger (Chelmsford, Mass.) was
a triple-winner for the owls, touching the wall first in the 50
free (24.91), 100 free (54.60), and the 50 fly (26.57).
Junior Bridget Kline (Norwalk, Conn.) and Paddock
each won two races. Kline won the 50 back (32.29) and the 100
back (1:08.60) and Paddock prevailed in the 400 IM (4:53.020 and
the 50 breast (31.70).
Freshman Ray Estrada (Bellingham, Mass.),
junior Dan Morse (Hope, R.I.), sophomore
Justin Churchill (North Springfield, Vt.), and
seniors Domingo Rose (Nashua, N.H.) and
Cody Larrimore (Trappe, Md.) each won two events
for the Owls. Estrada won the 400 IM (4:23.61) and the 100 fly
(57.46), Morse won the 200 free (1:49.79) and the 500 free
(4:57.70), Churchill swam to wins in the 50 back (28.450 and the
100 back (58.35), Rose won the 50 breast (27.35) and the 100 breast
(1:01.22), and Larrimore placed first in the 50 fly (23.37) and the
100 I.M. (54.51).
Keene State will now prepare for the New England Championships
(Feb. 19-21) at White River Junction, Vt.
