KEENE, N.H. 10/14/10 – The Keene State women's volleyball
team extended its winning streak to three matches with a 3-0
non-conference victory against Babson College at Spaulding Gym on
Thursday night.
Keene State, which has won five of its last six matches,
improves to 16-9. Babson drops to 8-11.
Keene State went up 11-3 in the first game and held on for a
26-24 win. A kill by Babson junior Meg Flaherty (Hollis, N.H.) tied
the game at 23-all. KSC won the next two points on a Babson
hitting error and kill by junior Bridget
O'Bryant (Merrimack, N.H.) over an attempted Beaver block.
The Owls took the next two games 25-15 and 25-17.
O'Bryant led the KSC offense with 13 kills while senior Jamie Levine
(Medfield, Mass.) and junior Kristen Girard
(Red Hook, N.Y.) handled the defense with 14 and 12 digs
respectively.
"We're learning how to be a good team," said KSC Coach Bob
Weiner. "Everybody does their job. If someone doesn't have a
good day, someone else steps up."
"Everyone did their job completely," said junior setter Laurie Whalen
(Niantic, Conn.), who finished the match with 30 assists.
"The entire week we've been working together really well and our
chemistry is 10-times better than it was at the beginning of the
season. Everyone knows their role."
Flaherty finished with 12 kills to lead Babson. Sophomore
setter Kathleen Lynch (Quincy, Mass.) had 13 digs and 20
assists.
Keene State travels to Plymouth State for the NEWMAC Challenge
on Saturday. KSC will face Smith College and Mount
Holyoke. Babson is at the Coast Guard Academy Saturday for a
tri-match with Roger Williams.
