PLYMOUTH, N.H. 10/16/10 – The Keene State
College volleyball team defeated Smith College 3-1 (25-10, 25-27,
25-14, 25-7) and swept Mount Holyoke 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-12) on
Saturday afternoon at the LEC/NEWMAC Challenge hosted by Plymouth
State.
The Owls (18-9) have won four in a row, and seven of their last
eight to match their win total from last year (18) with two weeks
left in the regular season.
In the victory over Smith, junior captain Bridget
O'Bryant (Merrimack, N.H.) had a team-high 14 kills.
Kristen Girard (Tivoli, N.Y.) had 11 kills, 15
digs and five service aces for KSC while junior middle blocker
Ellyse Davis (Londonderry, N.H.) had five blocks.
Junior setter Laurie Whalen (Niantic, Conn.) had
38 assists to quarterback the Owls attack in the victory.
Agiainst Mount Holyoke, O'Bryant again paced the Owls
attack with 14 kills. Ali Facchini (Niantic,
Conn.) had six kills and two blocks, while senior
Jamie Levine (Medfield, Mass.) and freshman
Emma Cheal (Redding, Conn.) had double-digit digs
with 11 and 10 respectively for KSC. Senior Sammy Datti
(Durham, N.H.) had 20 assists for the Owls in the
victory.
The Owls return to the court on Wednesday, with a road match
against Westfield State at 7 p.m.
