ONEONTA, N.Y. 10/2/10 – After winning
their first two matches of the Oneonta State Invitational, the
Keene State College Owls dropped two matches on Saturday to RIT 3-1
(25-17, 25-21, 16-25, 25-14) and host Oneonta State 3-2 (30-32,
25-23, 13-25, 25-17, 15-10). In the loss to Oneonta, junior setter
Laurie Whalen (Niantic, Conn.) had a career-high
60 assists to quarterback the Owls attack with junior
Bridget O'Bryant (Merrimack, N.H.) handling
most of those sets with 22 kills.
With the two losses the Owls drop to 11-8 on the season, as they
had won their previous seven matches.
In the loss to RIT, Ellyse Davis (Londonderry,
N.H.) had a team-high 11 kills, followed by
Kristen Girard's (Tivoli, N.Y.) nine. Junior
Madison McHugh (Hyde Park, N.Y.) led the way with
16 digs for the Owls, while Whalen put up 36 set assists in the
loss. Davis also led the way for KSC with five total blocks.
Against host Oneonta State, Girard was 2nd on the team to
O'Bryant's 22 kills with 15 of her own to go along with
five service aces. Senior Sammy Datti (Durham,
N.H.) had 21 digs in the losing effort.
The Owls return to action Tuesday, with a key LEC match against
in-state rival Plymouth State at 7 p.m. in Spaulding Gymnasium.
