Sherry's Hat-Trick Leads Owls Past Colonials 4-0

Box Score

DANBURY, Conn. 10/2/10 — Junior forward Aislynn Sherry (Rehoboth, MA) scored three goals and the Keene State College field hockey team went on to shut out Western Connecticut State University, 4-0 at The WAC on Saturday afternoon.

"It is a long trip going down to Danbury," said head coach Amy Watson. "Aislynn had a nice game with the three goals but I thought all of our forwards just played a great game for us."

Sherry, put the Owls up 1-0 when she collected a rebound in front of the goal and slipped the ball past Colonial goaltender Heather Stone (Valhalla, NY) in the 13th minute of play.

KSC's leading scorer Elizabeth Coffin (Sugar Hill, NH) added her 12th marker of the season six minutes before intermission when she was set up by an assist from senior captain Chelsea Blackmer (Boylston, MA).

Sherry continued to score as she added two second-half goals. In the 51st minute, Jacki Benson (Hampstead, NH) led Sherry down field for a break-away opportunity and 10 minutes later, Niki Smith (Southwick, MA) dished out her second assist of the season to give Sherry the hat trick for the night.

Stone, who has been nursing a shoulder injury all week, made seven saves for the Colonials.

Senior goalie Meghan Ledoux (Standish, ME) earned the victory in goal for the Owls after making four saves in 61 minutes. She yielded to freshman Courtney Hearn (New Fairfield, CT) for the final 9:34. Hearn did not have to make a save.

The Owls, now 9-2 overall and 4-1 in the Little East Conference, out-shot Western Conn., 25-9 on the afternoon.

KSC hits the road again this week, with an away contest on Tuesday at in-state rival Plymouth State at 4 p.m. The Owls return home Saturday, October 9th, for a 1:30 p.m. start against Southern Maine.
