GORHAM, Maine 10/26/10 – The Keene
State College Owls swept the University of Southern Maine
Huskies 3-0 in a Little East Conference women's volleyball
match Tuesday evening at Hill Gymnasium in Gorham, Maine. The
game scores were 25-19, 25-11 and 25-11.
The win is the eighth consecutive for the Owls who improve to
22-9 and remain undefeated in the Little East at 6-0. The
loss is the third straight for Southern Maine, now 6-21 and 0-6 in
the conference.
The Victory sets up Thursday's home match against UMass-Boston
to be the battle of the two Little East Conference unbeaten teams
with both being a perfect 6-0 heading into the match. "I am very
excited to be 6-0 in conference," said KSC head coach Bob Weiner.
"It sets up a big match for us Thursday night at Spaulding
Gymnasium."
Junior outside hitters Kristen Girard
(Tivoli, N.Y.) and Bridget O'Bryant (Merrimack, N.H.) led the Owls
offensively with 11 and eight kills each. Sophomore rightside
hitter Ali
Facchini (Niantic, Conn.) added seven kills and five block
assists, while senior setter Sammy Datti
(Durham, N.H.) had 29 assists. Defensively, Jamie Levine
(Medfield, Mass.) led Keene State with 11 digs.
Southern Maine senior outside hitter Shannon Shuttle (New
Ipswich, N.H./Mascenic Regional) led the Huskies with eight kills,
four digs and two solo blocks. Senior setter Danielle Netland
(Cumberland, Maine/Greely) had nine assists.
Keene State hosts UMass Boston on Thursday night at 6 p.m. where
the Owls will celebrate senior night for Datti, Levine and Julie
Bernier (Valhalla, N.Y.).
