Owls Roll Past Pioneers 3-0

Box Score

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. 10/28/10 – Keene State College senior goaltender Meghan Ledoux (Standish, Maine) earned her fifth shutout of the season, as the Owls rolled past Smith 3-0 on Thursday afternoon in non-conference action.

The Pioneers (4-11) put the Owls (14-5) under early pressure, as Lena von Schorlemer forced a pair of early saves out of Ledoux.  Dari Goulden also went close with a shot that Ledoux saved at the 3:03 mark, but 51 seconds later, junior forward Jacki Benson (Hampstead, N.H.) netted an unassisted tally to give Keene State a 1-0 lead.

Smith continued to press, as Goulden's corner led to a goal-bound attempt by Pheobe Hopkins that was stuffed by Ledoux.

Senior captain Chelsea Blackmer (Boylston, Mass.) did beat Lawson seven minutes into the second half to double the lead, and sophomore Kalin Billert (Center Conway, N.H.) added a third with four minutes to play for the 3-0 victory. Junior midfielder Alyce Ferenc (Rumney, N.H.) was credited with the assist on the goal.

Smith nearly poked home a goal in the 56th minute when Rebecca Rosen deflected a shot from the point, but the attempt was just wide of the mark.

Lawson finished with 12 saves, her third highest total of the year.  Ledoux finished with eight saves for KSC in the victory

Keene State returns to action at UMass-Dartmouth for a 4 p.m. start on October 30 for their final regular season game of 2010.
