Bowdoin, Maine 10/30/10 – The Keene State College women's volleyball team ended their 2010 regular season schedule with a split tri-match at Bowdoin College Saturday afternoon. After defeating Emerson 3-1 (25-21, 24-26, 25-18, 25-17) in their first match, KSC fell to the host Polar Bears 3-0 (25-22, 25-18, 25-13). With the split KSC heads into the LEC tournament 23-11 on the season.
In the 3-1 victory over Emerson, junior outside-hitter Kristen Girard (Tivoli, N.Y.) had 17 kills in the match, while junior outside-hitter Bridget O'Bryant (Merrimack, N.H.) had 12 kills of her own for KSC. Junior setter Laurie Whalen (Niantic, Conn.) put up 35 assists, while senior libero Jamie Levine (Medfield, Mass.) hah 20 digs in the victory. Defensively, sophomore right-side Ali Facchini (Niantic, Conn.) threw down six block assists for the Owls.
Bowdoin, who was ranked #6 in the latest New England Women's Volleyball Association (NEWVA) poll, swept the Owls 3-0. O'Bryant led the way for KSC with 10 kills, while Whalen had 22 assists and 14 digs in the losing effort.
The Owls are the number two seed and have a first round bye in the LEC tournament. They will await the winner of Plymouth State vs. Rhode Island College. That game will be played on Tuesday November 2nd. KSC will face the winner on Friday, November 5th at UMass-Boston.
