Corsairs Top Owls in LEC Semifinals 1-0

Box Score

NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA 11/5/10 - The Keene State College field hockey team fell to top-seeded UMass Dartmouth 1-0 in a Little East Conference semi-final playoff match at Cressy Field on Friday. The Owls, who defeated the Corsairs by the same score last Saturday, were shutout for only the second time this season.

The first half of play featured back-and-forth play between both squads that resulted in a scoreless tie going into halftime.

At the 46-minute mark of the contest, the Corsairs offense finally produced. Off a penalty corner attempt, sophomore Eleanor Taylor (Fairhaven, MA/Bishop Stang HS) fed the attempt to sophomore Taryn Cardiel (Moorpark, CA/Moorpark HS), who blasted a shot on goal, but the shot was redirected by senior Stephanie Kinchla (Falmouth, MA/Falmouth HS/Quinnipiac) past Owl senior goalkeeper Meghan Ledoux (Standish, ME/Bonny Eagle HS) into the upper right corner, giving the Corsairs a 1-0 lead.

The Corsairs midfield play late in the game prevented scoring chances for Keene State, securing the 1-0 victory for UMass Dartmouth.

The Corsairs outshot the Owls, 15-6. Freshman goalkeeper Lauren O'Brien (Rochester, MA/Old Rochester Regional HS) made four saves for UMD, while Ledoux recorded nine saves for the Owls in the losing effort.

UMD improved to 14-7 with the victory, while Keene State finished their regular-season at 16-5 with the defeat.

UMass Dartmouth will return to action when they host the winner of the Bridgewater State-Plymouth State matchup in the LEC championship match Sunday.
