KEENE, N.H. 4/14/10 – Keene State College scored 20 runs
and banged out 20 hits in 10-1 and 10-7 sweep of Williams College
in non-conference softball action at Owl Athletic Complex on
Wednesday afternoon.
The Owls, who swept the Ephs for the first time since the series
began in 2001, improve to 13-9. Williams falls to 6-15.
Keene State struck early and often in the first game that was
halted after four and a half innings due to the eight-run
rule. The Owls scored three runs in the first and second
innings and two each in the third and fourth. Sophomore
Sara Stocklinski (Newton, N.J.) belted her first
home run of the season, a two-run shot, in the first inning.
Freshman Jessica Fiorenza (Wakefield, Mass.)
had a two-run double in the third and junior Katie
Bradford (Lebanon, N.H.) went deep with a blast that
easily cleared the leftfield fence in the fourth inning.
“I knew as soon as I hit it that it was gone,” said
Bradford, about her third round-tripper of the season.
Sophomores Courtney Savoie (Stratham, N.H.) and
Laura Chandler (Wakefield, Mass.) each finished
the game with two hits.
Savoie pitched an economical three-hitter in the circle, fanning
four and not issuing a walk to improve to 5-2 on the season.
KSC jumped out to an early lead and hung on for the win in the
second game. The Owls plated four runs in the first with
freshman Kayla Joyce (Bridgewater, Mass.)
delivering a two-RBI single up the middle.
Laura Chandler had a two-run home run in a three-run second
inning that made it a 7-2 game.
Freshman Nicole Dupuis (Fitchburg, Mass.) and
senior Stephanie Lavado (Wallingford, Conn.) had
run-producing hits in the sixth inning.
Chandler and Dupuis each had two hits in the game for KSC.
Sophomore Emily Albin (Bethel, Conn.) pitched
the first three innings for the Owls. Stocklinski took over in the
fourth and picked up the win to even her record at 2-2.
