AMHERST, MASS. 4/5/10 – The Keene State College softball
team dropped both ends of a non-conference doubleheader against
Amherst College on Monday, losing 6-1 in the opener and 9-5 in the
second game.
Keene State falls to 10-6. The Lord Jeffs improve to 11-7.
The Owls scored their only run of the opener in the first inning
when sophomore Haley Chandler (Wakefield, Mass.)
tripled and came home on a sacrifice fly from junior Katie
Bradford (Lebanon, N.H.).
Amherst took the lead for good with two runs in the bottom of
the second.
Junior Heather Harold (Newton, N.J.) and
freshman Nicole Dupuis (Fitchburg, Mass.) each had
two hits for the Owls.
KSC starter Ashley Clark (Alton, N.H.), 1-2,
took the loss in the circle.
Keene State had a short-lived 1-0 lead in the second game after
Bradford hit her first home run of the season.
The Lord Jeff scored three runs in the bottom of the first and
second to pull ahead 6-1. KSC got three runs back in the top of the
third with sophomore Laura Chandler (Wakefield,
Mass.) hitting a three-run home run, her second round-tripper of
the season, to make it 6-4. She added an RBI single in the
fifth to close the gap to 6-5, but KSC got no closer. Amherst
tagged on three more runs in the sixth.
Laura Chandler finished the game with two hits
and four RBIs for the Owls.
Sophomore Courtney Savoie (Stratham, N.H.)
started for KSC and took the loss. She is 3-2 in the circle this
season.
Keene State is at Westfield State on Thursday.
