Box Score WILLIAMSTOWN, MASS. 9/14/10- The Keene State
College field hockey team fell to regional rival Williams College
3-2 on Tuesday night in Williamstown, Massachusetts. The owls who
led 2-1 at the half, allowed two unanswered goals in the second
half for their first loss of the season.
"If you have to lose to someone, losing to Williams on the road
is okay," said head field hockey coach Amy Watson. "We came away
with some positives and we will move on to little east play."
The Ephs started the scoring at the 17:32 mark, when
Meera Sivalingam took a pass from Karyn
Moss to give Williams the 1-0 lead.
The Owls got on the scoreboard less than two minutes later when
senior captain Chelsea Blackmer
(Boylston, Mass.) fed Nikki Smith
(Southwick, Mass.) for her second goal of the season to
even the game at one.
Late in the first half, a Williams' defender kicked the ball out
of the goal to prevent Elizabeth Coffin
(Sugar Hill, N.H.) from scoring causing the official to
call for a penalty stroke. Coffin was up to the task beating Eph
goaltender Katrina Tulla to give the Owls a 2-1
lead.
The Owls led the half with a 6-4 shot advantage and a 3-1
penalty corner edge. "I feel like the first half was very much back
and forth," said Watson. "The second half Williams had
control."
In the second half, Sivalingam added her second goal of the game
and less than a minute later assisted teammate Nicole
Perry's goal to give Williams the 3-2 non-conference
victory.
Senior netminder Meghan Ledoux
(Standish, Maine) made five saves and allowed three goals
in the losing effort, while Tulla made three saves in the
victory.
The Owls return to action Saturday, with a home Little East
Conference match against Framingham State at 1:30 p.m.
