PROVIDENCE, R.I. 9/18/10 - The Keene State College
women's volleyball team won a pair of matches, including a
opening-season Little East Conference victory over Rhode Island
College in a tri-meet held in Providence on Saturday.
Keene State defeated RIC 3-1 (25-13, 25-16, 22-25, 25-14) in its
first match of the day. Juniors Kristen Girard (Red Hook,
N.Y.) and Bridget O'Bryant (Merrimack, N.H.) led the offense
with 14 and 12 kills respectively. Senior Jamie Levine
(Medfield, Mass.) had a career high 29 digs and junior setter
Laurie Whalen (Niantic, Conn.) finished with a career best 38
assists to go with three service aces.
The Owls swept Westfield State 3-0 (25-21, 25-15, 25-20) in their
final match. O'Bryant (14 kills) and Girard (13
kills) led the offense, Levine had 20 digs and Whalen added 25
assists.
Keene State (6-6, 1-0 LEC) hosts Rivier College on Thursday (7
p.m.).
