Box Score MIDDLEBURY, Vermont 10/1/11 - The Keene State College volleyball team dropped two tough matches on Saturday afternoon at Pepin Gym. The Owls started the day bringing regional ranked Amherst College to five sets (20-25, 25-19, 25-12, 15-25, 10-15) then bringing host Middlebury to five sets (25-22, 26-24, 15-25, 21-25, 10-15).
"We played well in both matches," said Bob Weiner. "We had Middlebury right where we wanted them but we just couldn't put them away."
With the losses the Owls drop to 8-6 on the year.
Against Amherst, senior Bridget O'Bryant (Merrimack, N.H.) led the way with 16 kills 20 digs and five total blocks. Senior Ellyse Davis (Londonderry, N.H.) had 13 kills of her owns, while senior setter Laurie Whalen (Niantic, Conn.) quaterbacked the KSC attack with 40 assists and also had a team-high 24 digs.
In the loss to Middlebury O'Bryant again led the way with 14 kills, four total blocks and 20 digs. Davis pitched in with eight kills, Whalen finished with 40 assists and senior libero Kristen Girard (Red Hook, N.Y.) totaled 29 digs and two service aces.
The Owls return to action Tuesday night, as they will travel to Little East and in-state rival Plymouth State for a 6 p.m. start.
