Box Score 1 NORTHAMPTON, Mass. 10/15/11 – The Keene State College volleyball team made quick work of Mount Holyoke and Smith College at the LEC/NEWMAC Challenge hosted by Smith College. The Owls swept Mount Holyoke 25-18, 25-19 and 25-19 in the first match, then came back later in the afternoon to drop Smith 25-20, 25-17 and 25-17.
With the pair of wins the Owls improve to 12-10 on the season.
In the victory over Mt. Holyoke, senior Bridget O'Bryant (Merrimack, N.H.) had a double-double with 13 kills and 16 digs. Senior Kristen Girard (Red Hook, N.Y.) was second on the squad with seven kills in KSC's first victory of the day.
Junior setter Meryl Ragaini (Seymour, Conn.) had 30 assists and two service aces pacing the Owls attack. Freshman libero Sammy Dormio (Leesburg, Virginia) had 22 digs and junior right-side Ali Facchini (Niantic, Conn.) had three total blocks in the victory.
Against Smith College, O'Bryant again totaled 13 kills while Girard filled the stat-sheet with eight kills, 14 digs and three service aces. Senior Ellyse Davis (Londonderry, N.H.) and freshman Samantha Branning (Glastonbury, Conn.) each totaled six kills, while Branning added three total blocks.
Dormio added 14 digs in the win and Meryl Ragaini quarterbacked the KSC attack with a career-high 38 assists in the victory.
KSC returns to action this Thursday, as they will host Emerson at 7 p.m. in Spaulding Gymnasium.
