MEDFORD, MASS. 11/20/11 --- Both Keene State College men's
and women's swim teams lost close dual meets to Tufts
University at Hamilton Pool in Medford, Mass. It's the
first time the two teams have met in the pool.
In the men's meet, Tufts defeated the Owls 163-133 while
the KSC women lost to the Jumbos 172-124. It was the first dual
meet loss of the season for each team, dropping their records to
2-1.
“It was a very close meet – great competition and
fast swims,” said KSC Coach Jack
Fabian.
Both Keene State teams each won seven swim events at the
meet. Sophomore Drew Ledwith (Keene, N.H.)
posted wins in the 200 free (1:43.22), the 200 I.M. (1:58.83) and
the 500 free (4:51.97). Sophomore Jared Hyde
(Tolland, Conn.) had wins in the 100 breast (1:02.79) and the 100
free (48.88). Freshman Randall Dunton (St. Cloud,
Fla.) won the 100 back (54.67) and junior Marc
Marois (Derry, N.H.) was the first to the wall in the
1,000 free (10:29.87).
In diving events, senior Derek Peabody
(Haverhill, Mass.) and Josh Tuller (Plainview,
N.Y.) posted New England championship qualifying scores in one and
three-meter events. Peabody was second in the on-meter event
(228.15 points) and third in three-meter (183.10 points) while
Tuller was second in three-meter (203.40 points) and third in
one-meter (221.60 points.)
Freshman Diana Pimer (West Haven, Conn.) and
sophomore Stephanie Murray (Haverhill, Mass.) each
won two races to lead the KSC women. Pimer own the 200 breast
(2:26.53) and the 200 I.M. (2:12.89) while Murray had wins in the
100 back (1:01.89) and the 200 back (2:13.05).
Other first-place finishes were record by senior
Jillian Whitaker (Gilford, N.H.) in the 100 breast
(1:07.11), freshman Julie Trodden (Reading, Mass.)
in the 1,000 free (10:54.94), and freshman Caitlyn
Shea (Salem, N.H.) in the 500 free (5:21.63).
Keene State men's team returns to the pool Fri-Sat, Dec.
2-3 when they will compete at the MIT Winter Invitational against
MIT, Wheaton, Bowdoin Harvard and Colby.
The Keene State women's team defends its Little East
Championship on Dec. 3 at UMass-Dartmouth.
