GORHAM, MAINE 2/12/11 – Seniors Amy Knoblock (Plymouth, Mass.) and Bryan Kolacz (Brentwood, N.H.) and sophomore Maggie Fitter (Branford, Conn.) were top performers for Keene State College at the Little East Alliance Indoor Track and Field championships held at the University of Southern Maine on Saturday.
The Keene State women's team finished second in both Little East (139 points) and Alliance (118 points) scoring. Southern Maine captured its 11th straight LEC championship with 214 points and 10th consecutive LEC title with 162 points.
The Keene State men's team finished third in the LEC standings with 95 points and fourth in the Alliance with 78 points. USM had 182 points to win the LEC championship for the eighth time and 151 points to claim its sixth Alliance crown.
Knoblock and Fitter each won two races for the Owls. Knoblock finished first in the 600 (1:37.03) and the 1,000 (3:01.93). Fitter took the top spot in the 800 (2:21.90) and the mile (5:16.01). Junior Sarah Titus (Derry, N.H.) was second in the 1,000 (3:04.44) and junior Paige Mills (Keene, N.H.) was the runner-up in the mile (5:20.99).
Junior Andrea Walsh (Bolton, Conn.) also raced to a first place finish in the 3,000 with a time of 10:32.39.
Knoblock, Mills, Titus, and Walsh joined forces to win the 4x800 relay (10:03.61). The team of sophomore Janel Haggerty (Guilford, Conn.), freshmen Emily LaPlant (Hudson, N.H.) and Kristen Huckins (Westmoreland, N.H.)and Fitter took third in the 4x400 relay (4:15.45).
In field events, Sophomore Whitney Cyr (Milford, Mass.) placed third in the weight throw (43'-07.75") and Haggerty was third in the high jump (4'-11.75").
Kolacz continued to dominate the weight throw and shot-put events at the championship. He won the weight throw with a mark of 61'-04.75" and the shot with a throw of 48'-6.75". Freshman Evan Miller (Granville, N.Y.) placed third in the high jump with a leap of 6'-01.25".
Senior Tim Pipp (New Ipswich, N.H.) was the Owls top performer on the track, placing second in the 3,000 (8:50.55). Senior Eric MacKnight (Newtown, Conn.) took third in the 1,000 (2:37.91) and fourth in the mile (4:22.89).
The team of senior Corey Loonan (Sandwich, Mass.), sophomore Andrew Sears (Derry, N.H.), freshman Ryan Widzgowski (Camden, Me.) placed second in the 4x800 relay with a time of 8:12.53.
