Box Score KEENE, N.H. 2/5/11 – Junior guard Nicole Girard (Foster, R.I.) scored 13 points and junior forward Rachel Riley (Coventry, R.I.) pulled down a career-high 21 rebounds, four shy of the school record, to go with eight points to lead the Rhode Island College women's basketball team to a 60-47 Little East Conference win over Keene State College at Spaulding Gym on Saturday.
Junior Courtney Cirillo (Windsor Locks, Conn.), notched her ninth double-double of the season for the Owls, finishing with a game-high 23 points to go with 13 rebounds.
With the loss, Keene State falls to 10-11 (3-7 LEC) while RIC improves to 15-5 and 6-4 in conference play.
Five straight points by sophomore Ashley O'Dell (Lincoln, R.I.), on a jumper and three-pointer, gave RIC a 23-7 lead at the 8:40 mark. Later in the half, senior Lauren Harrington (Exeter, R.I.) made a couple of lay-ups, the second coming on a nice feed by Girard to make it a 30-16 game with 4:20 remaining in the half. Girard had 11 points and Riley grabbed 14 rebounds leading the Anchorwomen to a 36-18 halftime lead.
The cold-shooting Owls hit just four of their 31 shots from the field (13%) and connected on two of their 13 attempts from behind the arc (15%).
Keene State made a mild run at the Anchorwomen in the second half. Junior Meghan Farrell (Chester, Vt.) hit a lay-up on and inbounds play to make it 44-32 at the 12:42 mark.
RIC bounced right back. A transition lay-up by Riley pushed the Anchorwomen's lead by up to 18 points (56-38) with 6:12 to play.
Farrell finished with 10 rebounds for KSC, who shot 23% (15-64) from the field and made just five of its 19 three-point attempts (26%) in the game.
O'Dell added 10 points for RIC.
Both teams return to LEC action on Tuesday. Keene State travels to Eastern Conn. RIC is at Western Conn.
