CLERMONT, FLA. 3/16/11 – The Keene State College softball team improved its spring week record to 5-2 with a 5-1 win over New England College in Clermont, Fla., on Wednesday.
"It was important for us to comeback with a win today after a couple of tough losses on Tuesday," said KSC Coach Charlie Beach.
Falling behind 1-0 after the first inning, the Owls scored two unearned runs in the second, highlighted by a key double from freshman Molly Dussault (Weare, N.H.) on a 3-2 pitch.
KSC scored single runs in the third, fourth and sixth innings to extend its lead. Sophomore Nicole Dupuis (Fitchburg, Mass.) had an RBI single in the third and sophomore Jessica Fiorenza (Wakefield, Mass.) added a run-producing double down the left field line in the fourth.
Dussault, who was playing second base, made the final out of the game with a nice over the shoulder grab on a pop fly.
Haley Chandler (Wakefield, Mass.) had two of the Owls' six hits from her leadoff spot in the line-up.
Sophomore Gabrielle Timms (Clark Summit, Pa.), the Pilgrims' starter, had two of NEC's four hits in the game.
Junior Sara Stocklinski (Newton, N.J.) improved her record to 3-0 win the win. She allowed one run on four hits with six strikeouts and two walks. Junior Courtney Savoie (Stratham, N.H.) was perfect in her two innings of work in the circle to pick up her first save of the season. She had one strikeout.
Timms went the first five innings for New England College (1-4), giving up five runs on six hits with three strikeouts and five walks.
Former Owl softball standout Katie Allenson is an assistant coach with the Pilgrims.
Keene State plays Franciscan (OH.) University (1:30 p.m.) and Wis.-Lutheran (3:30 p.m.) on Thursday.
