Box Score LAKE BUENA VISTA, FL 3/16/11- The Wheaton College women's lacrosse team jumped out to a 5-0 advantage on Keene State College and led throughout during a 15-12 victory on Wednesday afternoon at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.
With the win, Wheaton raised its record to 2-1, while the Owls fell to 1-2.
KSC junior midfielder Caitlyn Corace (Mahopac, N.Y.) led the Owls with three goals and an assist. Senior midfielder Jamie Albert (Southington, Conn.) also finished the game with three goals on the game, while Jill Kirk (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) and Lauren Sawyer (Westbrook, Maine) each finished with two points on two goals and two assists respectively.
For the Lyons, Junior Hailey Colburn (Concord, NH) paced the Lyons with six goals and an assist, freshman Charlotte DeSantis (Darien, CT) contributed four markers and a helper, while senior Tess Meyer (Concord, NH) added two goals and an assist.
During Wheaton's game-opening 5-0 run, Colburn and DeSantis each tallied twice, as the Lyon defense held the Owls off the scoreboard until the 20:49 mark. Keene State narrowed its gap to 5-4 by 15:23 on a goal from Kirk. A 3-0 Blue and White run helped Wheaton double up the Owls by 10:32. Each team scored twice during the rest of the half, as the Lyons led 10-6 at the break.
Keene State scored the first two goals of the second half and four of the frame's initial five to cut the lead to 11-10 with 14:17 to play. Albert, who scored three consecutive goals, netted all of her goals over a 9:34 span in the second half.
Wheaton responded with four unanswered tallies over 6:27 for a 15-10 advantage at 2:47. The Owls scored at 1:58 before an own goal with 18 ticks left completed the scoring.
The Owls return to action March 22nd, with a home contest against Springfield College at 7 p.m.
