Stocklinski, Owls Sweep Corsairs in LEC Twinbill 9-0, 5-1

North Dartmouth, Mass. 4/11/10 – Junior Sara Stocklinski (Newton, N.J.) had five RBI's in game one and pitched the Keene State College softball team to a win in game two in a doubleheader sweep of the UMass Dartmouth Corsairs, 9-0 and 5-1,  in Little East Conference action on Sunday. The twinbill was a makeup from April 2nd which couldn't be played due to wet field conditions.

With the wins the Owls improve to 18-6 overall and 3-1 in conference play, while the Corsairs drop to 4-11 on the season and 1-3 in league action.

Leading 1-0 in the first game, Stocklinski singled, scoring two runs, giving Keene State a 3-0 lead going into the sixth. With the bases loaded in the sixth, Stocklinski hit a triple, scoring three runs and put the Owls up 9-0. Freshman right-fielder Julia Gray (Windham, N.H.) was the only other Owl with multiple hits, going two-for-four with two runs scored in the win.

Owls junior pitcher Emily Albin (Bethel, Conn.) pitched six shutout innings, allowing four hits with seven strikeouts to improve her record to 7-2 on the season.

Corsairs junior pitcher Brittany Eldridge (Raynham, Mass.) lasted five innings, giving up three runs on four hits with seven strikeouts.

In the second game, with the score tied 1-1 in the second inning, Owls sophomore outfielder Kayla Joyce (Bridgewater, Mass.) homered over the left field fence, giving the Owls a 2-1 lead which they never relinquished. The Owls added one run in the sixth inning and two more in the seventh on a two-RBI double from Samantha Pratt (Bristol, Conn.), en route to a 5-1 victory. Junior centerfielder Laura Chandler (Wakefield, Mass.) and Joyce were the only Owls in game two to garner multiple hits.

Stocklinski pitched 5.2 innings, allowing one run on five hits with three strikeouts to lift her unblemished record to 8-0.

Eldridge suffered her second loss of the day, giving up five runs on ten hits with three strikeouts in seven innings of work.

Keene State returns to action on Wednesday when they travel to regional rival Williams for a 3:30 start.
