Sawyer Breaks All-TIme Points Record in 15-6 Win Over Colby Sawyer

Box Score

NEW LONDON, N.H. 4/21/11 – Senior attacker Lauren Sawyer (Westbrook, Maine) tallied a goal and three assists to earn the Keene State College women's lacrosse programs all-time points record, as the Owls dropped the Colby Sawyer Chargers 15-6 in non-conference action on Thursday afternoon at Mercer Field.

Sawyer, broke Michelle Mason's 05' record of 284 career points, with her fourth point of the game on an unassisted goal at the 14:12 mark of the second-half to give KSC the 13-5 lead. "We all know what Lauren is capable of when it comes to assists," said KSC head coach Katie Arsenault. "It's nice to see her be more versatile this year and score more on her own."

"It feels really great to have the record," said Sawyer. "I think this record really reflects the success my senior class has had over the past four years. Most of my points came off of assists, which means I've played with some great teammates who can put the ball in the back of the net and make my job easier. I could not have done it without them."

Colby Sawyer (7-9) hung tough with the Owls (7-5) at the beginning of the contest, evening the game at 2-2 on a free position shot goal from junior Molly Prudden (Andover, Mass.) with 22:15 to play in the first half.

KSC sophomore Lauren Brown (Agawam, Mass.) tallied two goals in the half's final four minutes to give the Owls an 8-4 lead at the break.

The second half was all KSC, as they outscored the Chargers 7-2 in the period, capped by freshman midfielder Eliza Witherbee's (Newburyport, Mass.) goal with 3:31 remaining in the game for the 15-6 victory.
