Box Score NEW LONDON, N.H. – September 13, 2011 – The Keene State College volleyball team earned a 3-0 sweep at Colby-Sawyer in nonconference action on Tuesday evening. The Owls won by scores of 25-17, 26-24 and 25-16. Keene State improves to 4-4, while Colby-Sawyer falls to 3-6.
"We are starting to play better and better every time we hit the court," said KSC head coach Bob Weiner. "It's nice to see the hard work in practice finally start paying off."
The Owls raced out to a 13-4 lead in game one and did not let Colby-Sawyer get any closer than eight points.
The second game featured 13 ties and six lead changes, but Keene came away with the 26-24 win after trailing 24-23.
The Owls completed the sweep by ending game three on a 13-7 run.
Keene senior Bridget O'Bryant (Merrimack, N.H.) led the team with 13 kills and 16 digs. Senior Ellyse Davis (Londonderry, N.H.) added 10 kills and hit .308. Senior setter Laurie Whalen (Niantic, Conn.) had a match-high 40 assists to go along with 14 digs. Senior Kristen Girard (Red Hook, N.Y.) chipped in nine kills and 11 digs.
For the Chargers, Sophomore Courtney O'Hara (Mystic, Conn.) had a match-high 14 kills for the Chargers. She also added 10 digs. Sophomore Ally Le-Bruno (Medfield, Mass.) recorded a match best 25 digs in the losing effort.
Keene hosts Rhode Island College and Westfield State on Saturday in a tri-match starting at noon.
