Box Score 2 KEENE, N.H. 9/17/11 – The Keene State College women's volleyball team swept LEC foe Rhode Island College and Westfield State on Saturday afternoon at Spaulding Gymnasium. With the pair of wins, the Owls improve to 6-4 on the season and 1-0 in league action.
In the day's second match, Westfield State defeated Rhode Island College 3-1 (25-21, 23-25, 25-23, 25-20) to finish 1-1 on the day. RIC fell to 0-1 in LEC play and 2-6 on the season after dropping both matches Saturday.
In the first match of the day, the Owls rolled to a 3-0 (25-14, 25-18, 25-21) victory over RIC for their first LEC victory of the year.
As a team KSC hit .436 for the match, including a scorching .581 (20-31 with two errors) in the first set. For the match, senior outside hitters Bridget O'Bryant (Merrimack, N.H.) and Kristen Girard (Red Hook, N.Y.) had a match-high 11 kills apiece. O'Bryant, Ellyse Davis (Londonderry, N.H.) and Alex Lehocky (Edgewood, N.M.) each hit over .600 for the match, with Lehocky leading the way at .636 (8-11 with one error).
Senior setter Laurie Whalen (Niantic, Conn.) had a match-high 44 assists to quarterback the KSC attack. Girard led the way with nine digs, while freshman libero Sammy Dormio (Loudon, Virginia) had eight digs of her own. Davis and senior right-side Braelan O'Toole (Derry, N.H.) finished the match with four total blocks.
For the Anchorwomen, freshman middle-hitter Marina Stoermer (Seattle, Washington) and junior outside-hitter Breanna Boyer (West Greenwich, RI) each finished the match with a team-high eight kills. Junior setter Jessica Ho (Providence, R.I.) finished with 21 assists, while Stoermer had a team-high nine digs.
In the tri-match finale, KSC dropped Westfield 25-14, 25-15 and 25-9. O'Bryant had a match-high 10 kills, to go along with 10 digs and three total blocks for the Owls. Davis was second on the team with seven kills.
Whalen finished with match-high's in digs (13) and assists (29) for the Owls in the win.
Freshman outside-hitter Alyssa Danilow (W. Springfield, Mass.) and senior outside-hitter Alex Shaw (East Falmouth, Mass.) each led Westfield's attack with three kills apiece. Sophomore outside-hitter Lindsay Rescott (Northport, N.Y.) finished with eight digs, while senior setter Kerin DeGirolamo (N. Attleboro, Mass.) had eight assists.
Keene State returns to the court on September 22nd, as they will travel to Rivier for a 7 p.m. start.
